CODE OF ETHICS

The Davis Standard Press exists to create a fair and even platform to highlight student events, organizations, and happenings in and around Davis. Its goal is above all to celebrate the student body of the University and provide a single resource for the community which is equally accessible to all.

Writers at the Davis Standard Press are not restricted in their activities, contributions, membership in other organizations, or political involvement so long as their behavior is not so outrageous that it casts the paper as a whole in a negative light. Regardless of personal actions or beliefs, it is the job of writers to avoid unduly favoring one side of a story through omission, biased tone, or false information. All pieces should provide the readers with the necessary facts of a story and allow them to arrive at their own conclusions. Most importantly, pieces should never insult the intelligence of the reader and should always strive for a sense of mutual respect.

Regardless of any bias on the part of an individual writer, it is the job of the Office of the Editor to ensure that any material put into print meets the standards of the paper.
